TAKING private saxophone lessons AT THE RIDGEWOOD CONSERVATORY

The saxophone is an extremely versatile woodwind instrument, used in a broad range of musical genres. With all of its family members (soprano, alto, tenor and baritone), the saxophone is widely used in classical music including concert bands, chamber music, solo repertoire, orchestras, and in military and marching bands, as well as in jazz, contemporary, rock and popular music.

Our beginner saxophone students learn correct fingering,  embouchure, tone production and note recognition. They have fun learning to play basic songs in just a few lessons! As our saxophone students begin to master their instruments, they explore a wider range of literature and musical styles.

Our saxophone instructors are highly trained professional performers and experienced, caring teachers dedicated to helping their students achieve success. They guide their student-saxophonists in learning the basics of rhythm, timing and tone, while enabling them to flourish and become confident in developing their own unique playing styles.

THE MANY BENEFITS OF BEGINNER saxophone LESSONS FOR CHILDREN, teens and adults!

Learning how to play the saxophone offers many different benefits. Our students find that saxophone playing improves hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and memory. Because the saxophone is often used as solo instrument in jazz, it offers a creative outlet for those students interested in improvisation.

The saxophone is often heard in a solo capacity in jazz, rock and pop bands, in addition to being an integral part of classical wind ensembles, jazz ensembles and marching bands — providing student-musicians with a wide range of performance opportunities.

Offered as one-on-one private instruction, saxophone lessons help our youngest students to develop a sense of accomplishment as they learn and grow. As our saxophonists continue to study, they develop the dexterity necessary to finger the instrument properly and increased lung capacity. As a bonus benefit, the techniques learned in playing saxophone are easily translated to learning other woodwind instruments such as the flute, clarinet, oboe, english horn, bassoon, piccolo and recorder.

Advanced saxophone lessons for students of all ages!

Our advanced saxophone students develop their artistry as they explore more complicated pieces and different genres to add to their repertoire. They also might choose to study improvisation. Our instructors help their advanced students by teaching them more complex music theory and composition, and they coach them in preparing for auditions or performances, playing within a group and performing as solo artists.
