TAKING private flute lessons AT THE RIDGEWOOD CONSERVATORY

An important member of the Woodwind family, the flute has a clear, bright sound with a lovely warm, refined tone. Found in many orchestras and ensembles, the flute is also used as a solo instrument. Common to many different genres, the flute is used in classical, jazz, Latin, pop and contemporary music.

Our beginner flute students learn how to master making a sound through correct embouchure and tone production in addition to learning fingerings and note recognition…all while have fun learning to play basic songs in just a few lessons! As our flute students begin to master their instruments, they explore a wider range of literature and musical styles.

Our flute instructors are highly trained virtuosi performers and experienced, caring teachers dedicated to helping their students achieve success. They carefully guide their student-flutists in learning the fundamentals of rhythm, timing and tone, while tailoring lessons to each student’s individual learning style and personal goals.

THE MANY BENEFITS OF BEGINNER flute LESSONS FOR CHILDREN, teens and adults!

Learning how to play the flute offers many different benefits. Studying the flute improves hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and memory.

The flute is used in most orchestras, wind ensembles, chamber ensembles and marching bands, as well as in jazz, Latin, pop and contemporary groups — providing student-musicians with a wide range of performance opportunities.

Offered as one-on-one private instruction, flute lessons help our youngest students to develop a sense of accomplishment as they learn and grow. As our flutists continue to study, they develop the fine-motor skills and breath control necessary to master the instrument. As a bonus benefit, the techniques learned in playing flute are easily translated to learning other woodwind instruments such as the saxophone, clarinet, oboe, english horn, bassoon, piccolo and recorder.
