TAKING private clarinet lessons AT THE RIDGEWOOD CONSERVATORY

The B-flat or soprano clarinet has the largest pitch range in the Woodwind family. The clarinet takes on both solo roles and the middle register of the woodwind part in orchestral music, but often assumes a leading role in music written for concert band. With its warm timbre and easy facility, it is also used as a solo instrument in genres such as swing and jazz.

Beginning clarinet students learn fingering, correct embouchure, and note recognition, while having fun learning to play basic songs within only a few lessons! As our clarinet students begin to master their instruments, they explore a wider range of literature.

Our clarinet instructors are highly trained virtuosi performers and experienced, caring teachers who are dedicated to helping their students achieve success. They guide their student-clarinetists in learning the basics of rhythm, timing and tone, while enabling their students to flourish and become confident in developing their unique playing styles.

THE MANY BENEFITS OF BEGINNER CLARINET LESSONS FOR CHILDREN, teens and adults!

Learning how to play the clarinet offers many different benefits to students of any age, such as improving hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and memory, as well as providing a creative outlet.

Due to the clarinet’s unique and flexible sound, it is often heard in jazz bands, classical wind ensembles, traditional orchestras and folk and ethnic music — providing student-musicians with a wide range of performance opportunities.

Offered as one-on-one private instruction, clarinet lessons help our youngest students to develop a sense of accomplishment as they learn and grow. As our clarinetists continue to study, they develop the dexterity necessary to finger the instrument properly and increased lung capacity. As a bonus benefit, the techniques learned in playing clarinet are easily translated to learning other woodwind instruments such as the flute, saxophone, oboe, english horn, bassoon, piccolo and recorder.

Advanced CLARINET lessons for students of all ages!

Our advanced students develop their artistry as they explore more advanced pieces and different genres to add to their repertoire. They also might choose to study the bass clarinet. Our instructors help their advanced students by teaching them more complex music theory, improvisation and composition, and they coach them in preparing for auditions or performances, playing within a group and performing as solo artists.
