Please welcome Jay Shanman to our Brass faculty!

Jay Shanman is a widely acclaimed trombonist with an extensive list of Broadway, orchestral and recording credits.

Jay’s Broadway credits include First Trombone on numerous Broadway shows, including Baker Street, Fiddler on the Roof, Never on Sunday, and Funny Girl, and First Trombone on both Broadway and on the cast albums of Man of La Mancha, Happy Time, Zorba, Coco, and Company.

Equally impressive, his orchestral credits include performances with the European Tour of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the West Coast Tour of the American Brass Quintet, the Caramoor Festival Orchestra, City Center Opera, City Center Ballet and Radio City Music Hall Orchestra. Additional credits as First Trombone include performances with Sol Hurok Enterprises, Royal Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra, Westchester Philharmonic Orchestra, Musica Aterna Orchestra, Pro Arte Symphony Orchestra, Festival Orchestra of New York, American Wind Symphony, St. Patrick’s Cathedral Brass (NY), Trombone in Residence at the Bennington Composer’s Conference (VT), Brattleboro Music Festival (VT), Pierre Monteux Conductor’s Conference (ME), Garden State Arts Center, Garden State Symphonic Band, Plays in the Park (Menlo Park NJ), Westbury Music Fair (Long Island NY), Paper Mill Playhouse, Encore Orchestra of New Jersey, Newport Youth Band, Larry Elgart, and Ringling Brothers Barnum & Baily Circus.

Jay holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Curtis Institute of Music, having previously studied at the Manhattan School of Music and Mannes School of Music, Preparatory. Formerly a Brass instructor at the Third Street Music School Settlement in New York City, the longest-running community music school in the United States, Jay has graciously consented to teach Trombone, Baritone and Euphonium to our students here at The Ridgewood Conservatory!
